GETTING TO ITALY

FLIGHT INFORMATION

We have outlined flight options from Ireland below. We know that some of our guests will be travelling from further afield, but as general guide the Italian airports we list below would still be your end destination.

There are two airports near Lecce; Brindisi Airport (Salento Airport) is approx. 25 miles away (40mins) and Bari International Airport is approx. 100 miles away (2hrs) from Lecce. Travelling to Brindisi would be the most convenient option if possible.

Direct Flight Routes from Ireland

DUBLIN - BRINDISI

As of October 2023, Aer Lingus and Ryanair have released their flight schedules for Summer 2024. Aer Lingus flights are on Saturdays and Tuesdays, and Ryanair flights are on Sundays and Tuesdays.

The most direct and cost effective route (based on current prices) would be to fly to Brindisi with Aer Lingus on the Saturday evening (8th June), and return to Dublin with Ryanair on the Tuesday morning (11th June). We recommend booking your flights sooner rather than later as prices will fluctuate.

DUBLIN - BARI

Ryanair flies from Dublin to Bari, there are two flights per week which operate on a Thursday and a Monday. This could be an option for those planning a longer trip.

Indirect Flight Routes from Ireland (1 stop)

BELFAST - BRINDISI

There are a few different options to travel to Brindisi if Belfast is your starting point, here are two of the easier/cheaper options:

  • Ryanair: Belfast International - London Stansted - Brindisi Airport
  • Ryanair: Belfast International - Milan Bergamo - Brindisi Airport

We have personally made the trip to Brindisi via London Stansted and Milan Bergamo a couple of times and it is relatively easy. Be aware, travelling via London Stansted may require an overnight stay in Stansted (airport hotel is within walking distance) as the flight to Brindisi usually leaves at 6:20am. We have also found that booking the indirect trip can sometimes work out slightly cheaper than some of the direct options.

You can travel to Brindisi with Ryanair from most major airports in Italy, so this could be a great option if you wanted to make a holiday of it with a stay in Rome, Milan, Venice etc. on the way!

TRANSPORTATION TO LECCE

Once we have an idea of everyone's flight information, we plan to look into arranging transportation from Brindisi Airport to Lecce, though of course it will depend on numbers. Please keep us posted once you have confirmed your flights!

There are a number of public transportation options to travel to Lecce from both Bari and Brindisi airport. You can take a train from Bari to Lecce, this takes about 1.5hrs and the train station is around 25mins away from the airport by taxi. From Brindisi Airport, you can travel to Lecce by bus (this leaves from the airport directly and takes around 30mins). Hiring a car is also an option, but please be aware that driving and parking in Lecce Old Town can be challenging (best to check with your hotel first)!

WHERE TO STAY

HOTEL INFORMATION

In the historic city of Lecce, there are a lot of different accommodation options available depending on your budget and preferences. To help with your search, we've had a quick look at what's available and compiled a list of some examples below to give you an idea of price (as of October 2023, prices have risen slightly). Generally speaking, this part of Italy is much cheaper than some of the bigger cities, so you might be surprised to find hotel stays for less than a night in Belfast!

Please note that hotel websites and Booking.com tend to only release availability around 6-9 months in advance, so hotels may show as fully booked/unavailable if you search any earlier than that.
